Quartz on Calcite on Aurichalcite
stock #17.1-557
Mina Ojuela, Mapimi
Durango, Mexico
7.3 x 5.7 x 4.2 CM (cabinet)
price: $380
Spring 23

An unusual specimen ex Les Hitchings collection, obtained in 1963 as noted in his ledger; one of his earliest pieces. This is quite different from more recent pieces and has a fine composition overall. The Calcite and Quartz have a light mint-green color caused by the underlying copper minerals. A small area of Aurichalcite is noted on the matrix. The taller fingers or towers grade to a white to pale yellow color at the tips. Overall in excellent condition, the sparkle and luster are excellent. This dates back to the early years of Mexican mineral specimens being exported to the USA.

Rose Quartz
stock #17.1-643
Alto da Pitorra, Laranjeiras, Galleia, Doce Valley
Minas Gerais, Brazil
6.3 x 3.9 x 2.8 CM (cabinet)
price: $1200
Spring 23

Cluster of terminated rose Quartz crystals with very good color and transparency. An older piece from the Alto da Pitorra (Brazil) with most crystals having a slight divergence though mostly in parallel growth. In very good condition, the main terminations are sharp and undamaged, there is a contacted area on the back but not seen on display. Rose Quartz crystals are not known from very many localities and large, fine crystals like this are very rare indeed. Choice.

Cerussite and Malachite - modern Irish classic
stock #16.1-582-(CN2124)
Tynagh Mine, Loughrea, Killmore
County Galway, Ireland
9.7 x 8.9 x 6.1 CM (cabinet)
price: $720
Spring 23

Outstanding large Cabinet specimen with fine green color, luster and rich composition. One of the very best examples we have seen from this closed locality, it has a great provenance, collected in 1980 by Richard Barstow during the very breif period when fine specimens could be collected. Later in the collections of Nick Carruth (Cornwall, UK) and Charles Noll (USA). The specimen has good exposures of Cerussite on all sides, the most attractive of which contrast with the vivid green Malachite. It seems this locality was "discovered" late in its life by collectors. Some specimens of this quality were found early on, but the mine soon closed and since then nothing much other than micromounts were seen. The locality is known for some excellent small rarities but large specimens are only seen ion early collections. This would be an attractive, colorful specimen from anyplace but is especially choice being green and from Ireland.

Ajoite in Quartz - modern classic
stock #23.1-164
Messina Mine, Messina District
Limpopo Province, South Africa
5.3 x 5.2 x 3.9 CM (cabinet)
price: $920
Spring 23

Two joined Quartz crystals with very distinct and vibrant inclusions of blue-green Ajoite. These are fully natural crystals which is quite rare (very often faces were polished or ground down to show the inclusions better). This has no such alterations, polishing or repairs of any sort and the crystal tips are sharp and complete. A custom made Acrylic display base is included as well. There have been no new finds of Ajoite like this for more than 15 years, these have become highly prized and usually very expensive. An excellent value for a modern classic.

Mimetite var. Campylite
stock #19.1-790
Dry Gill Mine, Caldbeck Fells
Cumberland, Cumbria, England
6.6 x 2.7 x 2.1 CM (cabinet)
price: $950
Spring 23

Esthetic, classic and unusual British "Campylite" from the vintage locality of Dry Gill. Well-crystalized Mimetites are clustered on a dark gossan cast that is hollow on one side. Especially intriguing is the outside facing half of the crystals are a dark olive green but the inner half are reddish orange. In excellent condition, this is the type of Mimetite that made this small mine world famous. Ex Hitchings collection, obtained by trade in England in the 1970 era but almost certainly a far older specimen from the golden years at the mine. This site began formal working in 1846 and operations ceased in 1869. While the mine produced best in those years there have been some good pieces collected about a half century ago as well.

Quartz with inclusions
stock #23.1-327
Buenopolis
Minas Gerais, Brazil
6.1 x 5 x 3.5 CM (cabinet)
price: $440
Spring 23

Something very unusual, a polished Quartz prism that shows off inclusions that look like a flock of white birds. We usually do not handle this sort of polished specimen, but for this we have made an exception. Super clear, well-polished, flawless Quartz with white inclusions that are mostly disk shaped and wispy. Ex Les Hitchings collection, he obtained this in Brazil in 1989. I have never seen another like it.

Chalcocite
stock #AX-4-066
Flambeau Mine, Ladysmith, Rusk County
Wisconsin, United States
5.8 x 5.2 x 3.5 CM (cabinet)
price: $450
Spring 23

A pure mass of intergrown Chalcocite crystals most of which have very good iridescence. A modern day classic, this mine produced some very fine Chalcocites over a brief period more than 20 years ago. These will never be found again at this locale. Good Chalcocite crystals are surprisingly rare, most of the best came from very old localities and no place ever produced many or for a long period. This piece looks good on all sides, is solid (no sulfide degeneration) and a very good value for a nice Flambeau.

Elbaite
stock #AX-7-041
Barra do Salinas Mining District, Coronel Murta
Minas Gerais, Brazil
5.6 x 1.9 x1.7 CM (cabinet)
price: $960
Spring 23

A glassy Tourmaline with stepped prismatic terminations weighing 37.45 Grams. Classic Minas Gerais crystal from old finds at Barra do Salinas. This is mostly a dark green with some blue zone near the bottom section. This displays best with backlight it looks dark without some. In very clean condition, no damage by naked eye and looks fine on all sides. Ex Larry White collection, Larry was a well respected collector with very good quality judgment.
