Smithsonite with Mimetite
stock #16.1-672
Tsumeb
Otjikoto Region, Namibia
5.2 x 3.2 x 3 CM (small cabinet/ large miniature)
price: $360
Dec 2018

Cuprian Smithsonite from Tusmeb fills an open seam on the matrix and has partly covered several golden Mimetite crystals. In fine condition, ex. Loben collection (with label) collected in 1986, close to the end of the Tsumeb era. The Mimetites are the slender pointed type and the overgrowth of the Smithsonite crystals is like a cloak. Great luster and excellent condition, the paragenesis is especially clear on this specimen.

stock #14.1-336
Lavrion
Attiki Prefecture Laurion District, Greece
5.7 x 3 x 2.6 CM (small cabinet/ large miniature)
price: $240
Late Summer 2018

A choice Greek Smithsonite with deep color, bright luster and excellent form. In undamaged condition as seen, the fingers and globs of Smithsonite rise from a contrasting gossan matrix. This is from one of the oldest mineral localities on the planet, and is an attractive example of the orange-brown color. Nice sparkle in person.
Smithsonite - muti colored multi layered
stock #17.1-607
Choix, Municipio de Choix
Sinaloa, Mexico
6.8 x 5.6 x 2.6 CM (cabinet)
price: $260
Worldwide mix summer

A choice small cabinet Smithsonite made of purple and pink botryoidal layers over a green core. There is minimal matrix. From the now defunct Choix locale, this has a fine color and luster that is much better in person. In undamaged condition, these Smithsonites are no longer being found. A modern classic locale, better specimens like this really do stand out and are a good value.
Smithsonite Pseudomorph after Dolomite
stock #15.1-583
Rush Creek, Marion Co.
Arkansas, United States
10.2 x 6.7 x 3.7 CM (cabinet)
price: $300
Spring update

The classic habit of saddle shape Dolomite crystals completely replaced by sparkling smithsonite. The matrix is also nearly all Smithsonite and mostly composed of the rare red-orange color but also has zones of the more typical yellow. A long running debate concerns the color being caused by either Cadmium or Greenockite inclusions. To me it is a distinction without a difference, Greenockite is simply Cadmium Sulfide and so that Cadmium is ultimately the source for the color. In good condition, only a few very minor abrasions can be seen, the Dolomite saddles are quite large and stand well above the matrix.
Smithsonite
stock #18.1-103
Choix, Municipio de Choix
Sinaloa, Mexico
4.3 x 3.8 x 1.7 CM (miniature)
price: $160
Spring update

Bright pink Smithsonite in a bubbly habit with no adhering matrix. Fine color and luster in an attractive shell-like cast structure. From the long known prospects at Choix, Simaloa, Mexico. Sadly this locality has had many problems and has stopped producing due to cartel violence. The bright colored Smithsonites from here are now highly regarded as fine specimens.

The rare intense color most desired for a fine Cobaltoan Smithsonite. Well crystallized and in perfect condition this is a classic Tsumeb specimen with first rate esthetics. Rich purple-pink hue and 360 degree display ability give this thumbnail top marks. Choice and better in person.

Tsumeb
Otjikoto Region, United States

Bright purplish-pink color dominates this small cabinet specimen with several spherical groups of Smithsonite crystals on a Sulphide matrix. In contrast there are several Cerussites some twinned and in fine condition as well. Most Tsumeb Cobaltoan Smithsonite is a rather pale pink color this is really deep strong color, electric and impressive.

Pink gemmy crystals of Cobaltoan Smithsonite in on a perfect condition thumbnail. From the great Tsumeb mine, this looks better in person, has the rich, lustrous color that is the most desiarable. The better Tsumeb pink Smithsonites are the worlds best, this small specimen show why.
